Biblical foundation for mentoring
God created us to be in relationship with him and with one another and that is why at Grow Ministries we encourage children and young people to have multiple adult mentors of vital faith.
Mentoring creates relationships that create a community within a congregation. It invites both young and old to share their lives, and stories and grow in their faith together. As well as your family of origin, God uses deep gospel-centered intergenerational relationships in the faith community to help shape us.
Imagine sitting in a small group Bible study by yourself. Now imagine reading the Bible and hearing others sharing their insights in a way that stimulates your reading and understanding.
We don’t learn or integrate our learning in isolation from other Christians. An apprentice’s skills grow and develop under the guidance of an experienced tradesman, so does our faith grow with a body of believers. As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17
Our faith impacts every area of life because God is interested in shaping us as whole people who view all things through the lens of the good news of Jesus. How we do this may look different from one generation to the next, but we all need what wisdom has to offer.
Remember your leaders who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. Hebrews 13:7
How could you create space to spur one another towards reflection and spiritual growth?
